MODULE 6
“MEDITATION TRAINING FOR MENTAL TOUGHNESS”
Weeks 11 – 12
Lessons 1-5 Review
&
Meditation Training
The beginning of the module has a “Quick Review” of modules 1-5. Allow the students to answer the questions on workbook pages 40-41 independently (also listed below). After they have had ample time, review each question and discuss the correct answers. This is, of course, to check for understanding and reinforce each concept.
CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING! Students independently answer the following questions in their workbooks:
1, What do the 3Rs stand for?
2. Write the definition of each of the 3Rs.
3. What does “hitting the light switch” have to do with your mind?
4. Why is it important to be as physically fit as possible?
5. What does it mean to be keenly aware of your environment?
6. Why is having eye-to-eye contact with a bully important?
7. What does your body language say to others about you?
8. Why is it important to develop better self-confidence?
9. What is the best way (and when) to use a cell phone in public?
After students have written their answers to the above questions, discuss the answers to each question.

Students write in their Student Workbooks their interpretation of the theme of the above illustration as it applies to bullying, and what some hidden messages could be.
“MY MENTAL TOUGHNESS” – Poem
NOTE: You will notice in the following poem that the majority of the poem is in BOLD PRINT. Each stanza is very important and should be thoroughly discussed with the students.
My mental toughness wasn’t anywhere to be found when you started bullying me.
I didn’t think much of myself; your bullying made me feel small and weak.
I spent a lot of time being angry and crying. I didn’t laugh like before, not very much at all.
You were winning, and what little pride I had left was sinking fast. I felt like banging my head against the wall.
Then my parents told me that bullies might sometimes be physically strong, but mentally they’re very weak.
They told me to develop my mental toughness, by doing so, the bully I could easily defeat.
So, I began thinking I was strong, in body and mind.
And you know what? The more I thought about being mentally tough, the more confidence I seemed to find.
Mental toughness is a powerful tool that all kids should develop, have, and use.
If bullies happen to enter your space, the bully will sense your mental toughness. Bullies will immediately know, trying to bully you, will result in a situation whereas a bully, he/she will surely lose.

Remind students: Select your favorite words or phrases in the poem. Copy them onto your “My Favorites” at the end of your workbook! Practice repeating them over and over again, so you are ready to confidently respond to a bully.
Present to students the challenge of memorizing this poem in its entirety.
For those who follow through by successfully reciting the poem either to you or the class, reward them openly in some special way. Some suggestions: candy bar, bag of chips, pack of pencils, game cards, crayons or markers, or any inexpensive trinkets.
The students have a space in their workbook (page 44) to list the first five students who memorize and recite the poem. Please let them know that the poem can be recited to the entire class or just to you!
- Enhance the retention and sustainability of BBGP comprehensive training.
- Interactively teach students to relax the body, concentrate, and focus.
- Teach students the importance of the use of the MIND, especially in a stressful encounter with a bully.

- Students will sit in a (Crossed Legs) position, with their backs perfectly straight, and with hands palms up, resting on their knees.
- Students should be totally relaxed.
- Instruct students to close their eyes while in this position and keep them closed.
- Students with eyes closed are to silently (In their MIND) repeat the word awareness 5 times. Nothing is said out loud by students.
- The procedure is totally about the concentration of the MIND.
- Instruct students to open their eyes after they have repeated the word awareness 5 times, (in their MIND) and they are certain they understand what awareness is, as it applies to bullying.
- When students open their eyes, they are to quickly stand up, with hands behind their backs. Please demonstrate this for the students.
- Students should be told it does not matter who stands first or last. What is important is that they should not stand until they have a clear understanding of what Awareness is and how it applies to bullying.
- Silently counting 5 times helps to reinforce and begin the process of students sustaining what Awareness is and how to apply it.
- Standing a particular way (hands behind their back, as well as sitting in a position) instills Uniformity & Discipline, important elements in Eliminating and Preventing bullying.
- Immediately after standing from the Awareness Meditation drill have students repeat the same process with “Hitting The Light Switch” and the 3Rs.
REMINDER: Modules 1-16 are followed by a short quiz (in the student workbooks) so students can demonstrate mastery of the lesson. This is followed by a teacher evaluation, taking into consideration various aspects of what the students have learned from that module. Please make special note of any particular accomplishments, improvements made, or areas in need of improvement, FOLLOWED BY YOUR SIGNATURE AND DATE.
