MODULE 15 (Continued)
THE BULLY’S UNKNOWN SECRETS
Weeks 29 and 30
Confuse The Bully
What is the theme/main idea of the illustration and what may be the hidden message(s) as it applies to bullying? Students respond in their workbook.
“CONFUSE the BULLY” – Poem
Kid’s you must learn to confuse the bully in any way you can if a bully gets in your face.
Confusion is a tremendous weapon for a kid to use against a bully. It will always make a bully feel disjointed and out of place.
Bullies expect everything to go their way, that’s why they keep bullying. This is the way it has always been.
Confusion changes everything. If a kid knows ways to confuse the bully, what a powerful message confusion will send.
Confuse the bully with unusual words or actions, anything unexpected and far from the norm. of the norm.
By you successfully confusing the bully, you just may be successful in preventing any of the bully’s mental or physical harm.
Role-playing confusing techniques against a bully are necessary skills for kids to know and learn ways to use.
A wonderful thing to happen to a targeted kid for bullying is to quickly make a bully become uncertain and confused.
All kids must absolutely believe,
It’s in their best interest to know how to confuse the bully with confidence and with the greatest of ease.
Al Johnson
Remind students: Select your favorite words or phrases in the poem. Copy them onto your “My Favorites” at the end of your workbook! Practice repeating them over and over again, so you are ready to confidently respond to a bully.
“CONFUSE THE BULLY” – Vocabulary
Discuss with students the meanings of the following words/phrases, and how they are used in the stanzas of the poem for a clear understanding of the Theme/Main Idea and the author’s intent:
- Confusion
- Tremendous
- Disjointed
- Unexpected
- Far From the Norm
- Role-playing
- Effective
- Uncertain
- Absolutely believe
- Have students form groups of three and separate themselves from other groups.
- Give each student a number between 1-3
- When you blow a whistle – or turn the light switch of and on – call out the number “1”. The student with that number picks out any stanza of their choice from the “Bullies Are Without Self Confidence” poem and acts it out in front of their small group.
- The group guesses which stanza was represented
- Repeat this activity by calling out the number “2”, etc.
- NOTE: With each round, the student must pick a stanza that has not been picked before!
- Continue until all six rounds are completed (there are 6 stanzas)
- Students should NEVER PLAY WITH or TAKE LIGHTLY any techniques learned in BBGP Comprehensive training.
- Students must never DEMONSTRATE their skills to anyone other than their teacher & parents. (Showing off skills to friends to be impressive IS NOT a wise thing to do.)
- PRACTICING CAN and should take place only with other students who are or have taken BBGP training.
- When the training is PLAYED WITH (not taken seriously) and SHOWN OFF to friends, the techniques MAY NOT WORK in a bullying situation. The bully may have observed and there would no longer be the element of surprise.
Bullies DO NOT do well when faced with the Element of Surprise and the Unexpected. It throws them off their game!
BBGP TRAINING IS SERIOUS, YET ENTERTAINING, INTERACTIVE, and FUN to learn!
STUDENTS must UNDERSTAND: WHAT THEY LEARN IS THEIR SECRET TO KEEP. It is only to be used as instructed when in an UNCOMFORTABLE situation with a bully.
REMINDER: Modules 1-16 are followed by a short quiz (in the student workbooks) so students can demonstrate mastery of the lesson. This is followed by a teacher evaluation, taking into consideration various aspects of what the students have learned from that module. Please make special note of any particular accomplishments, improvements made, or areas in need of improvement, FOLLOWED BY YOUR SIGNATURE AND DATE.
